A common misconception is that 1ml (1 syringe) of filler is a lot of filler. But anyone who has ever had their lips done a few times will all tell you that 1ml is not a lot of filler at all. In fact, the majority of patients get 1ml (1 syringe) in their lips at their first appointment and then come back weeks to months later to get a 2nd ml (2nd syringe). Some patients have even gotten more than that.
What About ‘Half Syringes?’
Align does carry half syringes for touch-ups or for anyone who previously got a syringe in their lips and they just want to add a little bit more.
Align has had a few patients in the past who were terrified at their lip filler appointment, thinking that 1ml of filler was going to be too much in their lips, so they started out with only a half syringe in their lips. However, every single time this has happened, these same patients call our office a week later (once all the swelling from the lip filler treatment has gone away) and they want to schedule to come back in to get another half syringe (totaling to 1ml/syringe of filler). This is simply because a half syringe of filler is a very scarce amount, and once swelling from the procedure is gone, it looks as if no filler was ever put into the lips.
Moral of the story—-save yourself a trip (and money) and get the full 1ml at your first lip filler appointment! J
Older/More Mature Women:
There is a common trend among the more mature women patient population when it comes to getting lip filler. And that is they are typically terrified of looking “crazy” after getting their lips done. A lot of them say that they ‘don’t want to look like a Kardashian afterwards.’ I always have to laugh and assure them that their lips will in fact not look like a Kardashian’s with just 1ml of filler (you would have to get around 4-6mls in the lips to start plumping them up that big). A lot of these women want to start out with very little to no filler in the lips (even after it has been explained that they aren’t going to look crazy with just a 1ml syringe in their lips). Here are the hard facts. Older women in general are going to need more filler than let’s say, a woman in their 20’s! Why is this? Because we also lose volume in the lips as we age (I know, it’s annoying). So, in older women we are having to replace that volume loss first before we can even ever get a lip plumping effect. So just know that it is very common for some middle-age to older women to have to come back for a 2nd or 3rd session of lip filler before they can get their lips to their desired size.
